Society seeks release of eighty gamecocks in Queens raid case
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals hopes the Court of Special Sessions in Long Island City will stop keeping eighty gamecocks and seventy six prisoners seized in a Laurel Hill Queens raid on Washington's Birthday. The birds are housed at No 111 East 22d Street and face possible disposal by immersion in a gas tank after evidence value ends. The raid was led by Mr. Freel of the society with aides and a policeman who accompanied the raid. Freel links Queens politicians to those involved and recalls the officer being thrown from a window, after which he disappeared for the night. Birds and prisoners were moved to Manhattan, with several birds and exhibits to be shown in Special Sessions in Long Island City as the case nears trial after delays.
