London May 2 The American steamer Rockingham has been sunk by a German submarine. Thirteen men are missing. Two boats with thirty three men were picked up yesterday by a patrol vessel. one boat is missing. The Rockingham, formerly Nebraskan, sailed from Baltimore on April 15 with thirteen US Navy gunners and two guns. The crew numbered 36, commanded by Captain Charles Edward of Brooklyn. The ship valued at 5,250,000, 4408 tons gross, built Camden, New Jersey in 1902, owned by Garland Steamship Corp. Previously, as Nebraskan, it was torpedoed off the British coast shortly after the Lusitania sinking. The submarine's commander claimed the Nebraskan carried no flag. The native born American crew included EW Carver, L Parker, H F Second, CN Grinstead, Louis M Bensley, J Simpson, C Carney, H West, among others, with naturalized Americans Alfred L Riley, John Parker, F C Yardel, CM Anderson. There were also eleven Hawaiians.
