Pepper triggers riot at Interborough strike meeting

A clash broke out at Marion Hall as Socialist Trade and Labor Alliance leaders urged unity of Interborough workers. Pepper denounced dynamite talk, sparking a near-fight with several hundred onlookers. Police Captain Burns arrived with reserves to restore order and clear the street.

Explosion at Grover shoe plant kills many in Brockton

A boiler blast at the R. B. Grover Company four story factory in the Campello district of Brockton on March 20 destroyed the plant and nearby structures. About 50 bodies recovered, 100 missing, 250 survivors accounted for, $250000 in damages. Dozens injured with many operatives trapped amid flaming wreckage as rescuers and the Rev. James A. O'Rourke aided victims. fire spread to adjacent buildings before being halted.

Finnish Governor Shot by Finnish Revolutionary Youth

Viborg reports Governor Miaseredoff was shot three times by a fifteen year old revolu tionist, Matti Hjalmar Reinikke. The youth, from Kurikks Parisa, fled to Stockholm and returned via Tornea before capture. The governor is in critical condition as authorities plan reforms to restore order and ease ethnic tensions in Finland.

Beef Trust Probe Expands To New York Witnesses

A weeklong federal grand jury inquiry led by Henry Lurnett and Joel M. Marx in New York gathered testimony from over a dozen figures linked to the six major beef packers. Witnesses included W. H. In Berkeley on March 20 a Central Bank of Oakland messenger, J E Daly, and ex Deputy Sheriff Roach were robbed of $10 000 bound for the Standard Oil refinery at Point Richmond. Two highwaymen with revolvers, one tall and one stout, halted them on the Stege to Point Richmond road and tied them after taking the sack.
