Herman Ridder challenges Census Bureau figures on paper prices
Herman Ridder writes to the President disputing official census data on newsprint paper reuse. He argues that for three years from January 2, 187 to January 1, 188 the quoted prices omit drop to two dollars a ton, four less than current asking prices, and presents a table comparing New York prices with census quotes. The dispute centers on pricing and timing affecting the Physical Culture Magazine printing, which will move production to New York after cutting about one hundred workers.

Conners Back in Town Plans New York Democratic Meeting
William J. Conners, chairman of the Democratic State Committee, returned from Palm Beach and announced a state committee meeting set for Saturday March 21 at the Hotel Victoria. He favored nominating Governor Johnson of Minnesota at the July Denver convention to win New York, but doubted Bryan could be kept from carrying the state if Johnson’s plan falls through. He predicted a Racing referendum would fail by about two to one and warned many Democrats might support the bill. He teased about possible offices for Auerbach and noted Hughes’ mixed prospects for president, while voiceing his desire to stay active rather than seek a national committeeman post. He also mused on the Buffalo convention location amid a joke about receivers.
