Morgan profits on New Haven affair questioned in letter

A Morgan & Co letter to chairman Howard Elliott defends the firm against charges of looting the New Haven Railroad. Sleeping Woman Stabbed to Death in Monroe Street Home

Marie Latone aged forty two of 9 Monroe street was found dead in bed at the rear of an undertaker shop, stabbed seven times in the chest. Her brother Rosallie alerted Patroimian Meyers who summoned Dr. Moore of Gouverneur Hospital. The physician pronounced her dead after about two hours. a ten inch stiletto lay on the floor near the bed. Police have not yet identified a suspect.

Dynamite Plot Foiled In Dynamite Row Doorway

Patrolman Joseph Tiyan found a stick of dynamite in a tin box with a burning fuse in the doorway of 314 East 30th Street at 2 am. Ryan threw the box into the snow, snuffing the spark. The block hosts a shoemaker shop and a grocery run by Italians in the basement.

Dynamite Found Near Church Door At St Marks

A ten inch dynamite stick was found about eight feet from St Marks eight feet from the church door at second avenue and 10th street. Frank Mann custodian and inspector Chen Kagan reported the blast could have leveled the building. The rector Dr Guthrie notified police and guards were posted around St Marks and nearby churches. Investigators hunt possible dynamiters amid a tense scene of worshipers and food shelter for the needy.

Gas Blasts Ravage Street injuring many and halting traffic

Gas leaks caused two powerful blasts at Fifth Avenue and 20th Street. A crater formed from the ruptured water main as flames surged from pockets of gas. A streetcar with fifteen passengers was spared serious harm. traffic was stopped for hours and fire engines pumped water from excavations until the gas was finally extinguished.

Mystery Invasion in Austin Touches Texas Rangers

In Austin a complex case surrounds the body of Clemente Vergara, an American ranchman allegedly brought to the Texas border from Hidalgo Mexico by unknown persons. Captain J Sanders of the Texas Tungens reports the body was found near a driver at 324 oclock this morning, with Vergara identified by Westglanier family members. Death of Charles Bostwick Found in Easthampton Woods

Charles Byron Bostwick secretary treasurer of the A. D. Watts Company was reported missing from West Bunt Street on January 4. His body was discovered face down in woods near Easthampton by Dorothy Greep, a music teacher, with no visible injuries. Authorities ruled death likely from exposure. he had a cottage at Amagansett and was a Princeton Club member. Identification was confirmed by Dr. David Edwards.

Rangers Cross Line take Vergara's Body

Texas Rangers crossed into Mexico at Hidalgo under armed guard to recover the body of Clemente Vergara from a grave in Hidalgo cemetery. The body was brought to Laredo then to the United States amid guard duty as authorities ordered an official examination. Vergara had been tortured and executed, with bullet wounds and a crushed skull noted, while witnesses described his abduction near the Vergara ranch on February 15.
