Senator Proctor Dead in Washington Vermont Senator
United States Senator Redell Proctor of Vermont died this afternoon at his Champlain apartments after a week of illness. The grip with pleurisy and pneumonia complications weakened his heart and caused his death. His son Governor Fletcher P Proctor, the governor’s wife, and close friends were by his bedside. The body will go to Proctorsville Vermont. Proctor had been in failing health since Congress began and did not return from his usual summer fishing trip in good health. His condition worsened today as Senate colleagues were informed.

New German Singers Debut in Die Walküre at the Met
Mme Leffler-Burchard of Berlin and Mme Berta Morena of Munich sang Brünnhilde and Sieglinde in Die Walküre under Mahler. Morena impressed with lyrical upper tones and youthful Sieglinde, while Leffler-Burchard offered weightier ballast and strong final scenes. Both new sopranos showed imagination and will be heard again. Burman and Van Rooy were less restrained, and Mahler's conducting was frequently inspiring.
