Westminster Abbey The Story of Westminster Abbey
A review of Violet Broocke-Hunt’s i2mo account on Westminster Abbey traces its origins from a vague early monastery to the grand structure loved today. The book emphasizes biography and history over architecture, highlighting kings and poets linked to the Abbey and noting its patriotic tone and accessibility for youth and adults alike. It details Henry III’s vision and the heavy taxes, fairs, and financiering used to fund construction, with references to Jews and royal pawning of jewels.
