Ice Company's Brief in Prohibition Case in Albany
Justice Alden Chester today received from the American Ice Company its brief replying to the Attorney General's attack on making permanent the writ of prohibition restraining Referee Myer Nussbaum from examining the company's officers in proceedings before Justice Chase. The brief argues that if the statute is constitutional, issues of fact should not be raised preliminarily and that the Attorney General offers only assumptions about the court's stance. It contends the petition lacks claims of illegality, disputes the monopoly claim, and maintains the price rise was not unlawful. the Attorney General's monopoly contention is dismissed as unsupported by the facts and constitutional guarantees.

Five men detained after barge beating and robbery
Mrs. Anna Williams, a widow, was beaten and robbed on the barge Mangan at East Fifty-third Street. Fainting two women in Jefferson Market Court arouse interest
Jennie Henry twenty and Metra Harrigan seventeen were arrested for disorderly conduct. After a night in a cell they fainted trying to leave court but were discharged for lack of evidence. They had been visiting Jennie Henry’s sister and encountered Detective Benning who had them arrested. Henry is a niece of a local sergeant. Magistrate Deuel discharged both.
