Economy of hospital ships and naval orders issued
The surgeon general cuts sick bay space on warships by half as hospital ships and shore hospitals handling the injured expand. Navy and army orders list officer assignments and transfers including Lt Cols St. J. Chubb and Drummough, Majors Barth Hunter Hearn and others, plus medical officers moving between forts and stations. Vessel movements note arrivals at San Francisco, Hempton Roads and ships leaving New York for Norfolk and other points.
