How R. B. Davis Escaped Left Riverside Drive Home

In a June divorce hearing R B Davis, a New York baking powder manufacturer, recounted fleeing his Riverside Drive residence in September 1881 after fearing his wife would confine him in an asylum. He wrote a letter to Henry Harney, who delivered it to a passerby who mailed it enabling his escape with a revolver and clothing transported to him by auto.

Woman Pillar of Fire at Rail Line Tragedy

Atlantic City, June 13. Mrs Mary F E Hill died when she walked along the third rail line three miles from this city. A bright flash and flames preceded her body foully burned beside the tracks near the boulevard. Two women in a nearby car fainted and were treated in Pleasantville. The victim crabbing held thirteen crabs and thirteen clams. her pocketbook contained $13.01.

Woman Shot in Tenement Mystery Near Harlem Hospital

Mrs Dei Lafharrow was found with a gunshot wound in the abdomen on the fifth floor of a West Gath Street tenement. Doctors rushed her to Harlem Hospital where she remained in serious condition. police questioned husband John Lufburrow and daughter Helen, who declined to speak. A revolver was reportedly found near the victim. Patrolman Delaney, a boarder in the home, and others were questioned as investigations continued.

Bellevue Hospital Fire Shows Calm City Fire Brigade Response

A fire on the sixth floor of Pavilion AB at Bellevue Hospital was contained by the hospital’s own fire brigade. Miss Carrie Ennis and three assistants alertly alerted staff, closed windows, and used music boxes to keep patients calm as physicians and orderlies evacuated affected wards. Canadian Pacific plans 30 million dollar railway extensions

Boy Impaled on Fence Fears Mother After Accident

Fourteen year old Michael Hradley climbed an eight foot iron fence at Wadleigh High School to retrieve a ball. He was impaled by a sharp iron point near the armpit but did not cry out to avoid alarming his mother. Bystanders aided him and an ambulance carried him to Harlem Hospital. He asked police not to tell his mother.

Murder Claim Shocks White Plains Husband Arrested

William Simon a New York Central Railroad night engineer was arrested in White Plains after his wife was found murdered in bed. The six year old daughter alerted neighbors and investigators found a towel and pillow case near the body. The coroner said marks of violence showed a struggle, though he ruled out suicide.
