Shooting at the Ansonia Hotel Involving Stokes and Two Women

W E D Stokes proprietor of the Ansonia Hotel was shot three times in his West 57th Street apartment by Miss Lilian Graham and Miss Ethel Conrad after a demand for letters. The women claimed self defense while Stokes reported an attempted extortion and a struggle in the Varuna building. Japanese servants aided after he staggered into the hall and were joined by police and detectives at Roosevelt Hospital.
