Frisbie Calls Albany Budget Deficit Real and Growing
Albany June 6 Assemblyman Daniel D Frisbie Schoharie leader of the minority in the Assembly warns that the total appropriations this year exceed expected revenues. He notes $40 354 108 98 in total appropriations with $55 456 999 99 for ordinary expenses and 2 107 2 for sinking funds. After Governor disallowances the net is 36 065 223 93 with 33 968 023 93 for budget and 2 467 20 for sinking funds. He compares last year showing a budget excess of 9 147 508 65, still 4 655 622 62 higher after cuts. He says revenues from indirect taxation total about 73 000 a year, leaving an apparent deficit of 3 065 2 even after deductions. He criticizes the legislature for large annual appropriations without matching revenues and warns of a return to direct taxation or new indirect taxes.
