The Rapid Transit Commission is expected to approve a Brooklyn extension by new methods after public protest. Officials aim to begin construction or testing by April, using innovative approaches to extend service and connect communities.
Merchants, hotel men and taxpayers along Broadway urge different construction methods for a proposed subway from Forty-second Street to the Battery. Chief Engineer Parsons favors near surface tunneling with minimal street disruption and plank road-ways, while discussions continue on route and method with public hearings planned.
The rapid transit system will not carry passengers before April 1 due to strikes and slow power plant and station work.
