Gould Harriman Move Nears Deal On Gould Lines

The Harriman Kuhn Loeb group and George J Gould met to settle handling of 35 million Wheeling and Lake Erie notes due August 1 and discuss broader integration with the Erie system. A traffic alliance with Wabash Pittsburgh Terminal and Western Maryland is eyed to boost Erie access to tidewater, with double tracking planned to raise tonnage. Harriman will travel west for about a month, isolating himself in Oregon as negotiations advance and Gould stocks rise.

Reorganization Nets $22 Million in Northern Pacific Deal

Attorneys for the state contend J P Morgan Co and others reorganized the Northern Pacific Railroad in 28 and claim a $22 202 355 profit at par value of the stock. They argue par figures misstate worth and dispute the amount of syndicate cash from stock and bond sales. Testimony shows the syndicate paid assessments on preferred and common stock and received cash shares and bonds totaling about $19 873 890 plus further consignments margins. The case focuses on present value of the railroad rather than past reorganizational profits.
