Washington reports a fierce campaign by the Camp Fire Club of America led by W T Hornaday attacking Secretary Nagel over plans to kill surplus male seals on Pribilof Islands. Nagel defends the policy as Congress intent and cites expert advice, while a Treasury report notes excess bulls may harm breeding grounds.
A cyclone swept the district northwest of Milan on July 23 damaging Sa Ronno Rovellasca and Lonate Pozzolo. About 25 people were killed and many injured, including railway workers. Houses unroofed telegraph lines down and rail traffic blocked. In Busto Arsizio a factory collapsed burying workers with ten dead and many injured. Another village saw a roof collapse killing fourteen and injuring twenty.
Magistrate Eugene F. Gilroy of Far Rockaway sustained a severe forearm fracture when his chauffeur attempted to cross in front of a starting trolley at Fairview Avenue and the Boulevard after a theatre visit. Dr. William Mulcahy said recovery would take days. his wife and companions escaped unharmed. No arrests were reported.

Reports from Atlanta to Savannah and Key West say the steamer Momus burned off Cape Canaveral after leaving New York for New Orleans with eighty two passengers. The sister ship Comus rescued the passengers and stood by as fire crews fought the blaze. Plans consider transferring travelers to the Proteus for direct return to New Orleans if Momus cannot reach port.
Inspector E de Markowski accused Erwin Wider, cashier at the New York agency, of stealing bonds valued at 70000. Wider has been missing since Monday night. police details and bank statements suggest margins were used for stock speculation. Wider’s attorney plans a press statement while brokers may hold the bonds.

Three Irishmen intervene to save Greek lad Spero Conomikes from deportation on Ellis Island. Deputy Customs man Matthew Coneys and Spero Conomikes senior join Rev Anthony Grogan and Peter Grogan to persuade officials the boy was from Connemara and release him from the Patras before noon.
Elizabeth Zellitz of Middletown has been named the Squire scholar for the coming year at Wesleyan University, the first woman to win the honor. The award, the largest at the institution, comes from a Greek prize exam amid ongoing controversy after co education was abolished.

Frederick Breadmyer, fifty pound block of ice in hand, fell while ascending a Chestnut street stairway in Philadelphia. He missed his footing and was killed when the ice struck him on the head, breaking his neck on the landing.

Oliver Rode nine and Ernest Rode fourteen of Brooklyn drowned while swimming in Mongaup River near Mongaup New York. The younger could not swim and his brother attempted a rescue but the grip around the neck hindered him. Help arrived too late. The boys stayed at Austin Rumick's boarding house with their mother Mrs Oliver Rode of Brooklyn. Bodies were recovered and to be transported home on Sunday.
