Avlantic City N J July 22 Mrs Vincent Astor and 650 passengers faced a two day U boat pursuit while en route to France to aid the wounded. Passenger Duncan Freedley MacDonald Jr recounts the ship’s evasive maneuvers as the German submarine shadowed them with life preservers worn at all times. He notes Mrs Astor’s bravery and humor, and says the voyage included munitions valued over 1 million dollars and several hundred enlisted men.
