Washington July 22 Three antitrust measures to amend the Sherman act and interstate commerce act were approved by the Stanley steel investigating committee. The bills aim to end interlocking directorates, shift burden of proof to corporations, and allow court orders to fix prices if monopolies are proven. They add two sections to empower injured individuals and states to intervene, and seek broader restraints on trade with strong emphasis on penalties and remedies.
Coroner Feinberg found a prima facie case against SAM Paul and JACK SULLIVAN and remanded them. Sullivan the King of Newsboys was released as a material witness on $100 bail. Bridgie Weber appears in the lower picture.
A New York Surrogate Court reappraisal of merchant Thomas Achelis's estate, died in Germany, increases net value to about 3.17 million dollars. A gang battle on East 12th Street near Avenue A left nine year old Tessie Hierbauer and thirteen year old Vincent Margareto with serious abdominal wounds. Police found no suspects after a search of the neighborhood. both children likely will die. Witnesses fled indoors as gunmen ran east toward Avenue B.
A Texas clergyman sent fifty dollars to President Taft's campaign fund. The donation came via a preacher in Galveston, presented along with a pledge to support the Republican cause. The report notes the secretary’s route and mentions the payment in context of the national campaign.
Ground will soon be broken for a new church and parish house for deaf mutes in Philadelphia. The AM Boul Protestant Episcopal congregation will erect the building, funded by a $26,000 gift from Helffeld and organized through the Episcopal Commission on Work Among the Deaf. The congregation previously met in a small Franklin and Brew streets building, serving about 50 deaf mutes.

A Harpersville resident states Mia Polly Harper was struck by lightning during a storm. She was knocked unconscious, but upon revival her chronic rheumatism disappeared. The full current passed through Harper causing weakness after awakening.
Detroit July 22 Hudson Maxim inventor of engines of war, guest of Frederick F. Wadsworth, announced a semi submerged cruiser that would outrun dreadnoughts. He described a heavily armed but lightly armored craft that floats until action, then sinks to expose only a gun platform.
Harry Vallons, named as a go-between for police and gamblers, surrendered at Police Headquarters. He faces charges in Herman Rosenthal’s murder, becoming the first alleged shooter to be detained. Authorities seek state’s witness cooperation from Vallons associates, while prosecutors weigh police complicity and the potential roles of Jack Rose and William Shapiro.
Police Commissioner Waldo announced that Lieutenant Charles Becker was relieved of his head role with the strong arm squad and assigned to desk duty at Bathgate Avenue station in The Bronx under Captain Dennis Brennan. Lieutenant Rheinixh will take charge of the gambling squad. District Attorney Whitman proceeds with grand jury hearings on Herman Rosenthal's charges against Becker. Witness Otto Avers testified about Becker’s movements in the Sternberger car the night Rosenthal was killed. Mrs Rosenthal is expected to appear before the grand jury today after waiving immunity.
