Garden City Long Island July 19 Fifteen hundred spectators witnessed a dramatic air mishap as aviator Joe Stevenson nearly lost his life in a bamboo engined biplane. The craft veered after 300 feet, struck ground, and leaped to about forty feet before crashing. Stevenson crawled out asking for a cigarette, then showed only slight injuries. The wrecked plane was beyond repair. Captain Baldwin then flew for over an hour with high speed circuits, thrilling the crowd. Joe Seymour also survived when his wheel tore off as he lifted off and still climbed to forty feet before landing safely.
