Spectacular Pier 14 Fire Destroys Big Structure and Freights
A massive blaze at Pier 14 North River destroyed the pier superstructure and the freighter H F Dimock while burning eight barges and damaging the Harvard passenger steamer. Authorities estimated losses around 500000 with no confirmed deaths though crews faced narrow escapes as flames spread in a hour long inferno aided by strong southwest winds. Firefighters from numerous precincts battled the flames, with Deputy Chief Binns and Chief Croker directing efforts as crowds gathered along West Street and in nearby tall buildings.

A wagon plunged 90 feet from a bridge after a horse shied at an automobile. Mrs Florence Voorhees died instantly and her two year old daughter Florence fatally injured. Horse Injured Runabout Crashes Through Bridge Rail
A bay horse frightened by an automobile bolted, dragging its driver and a child from a runabout. The vehicle struck the bridge rail, sending all occupants down a 90 foot drop. The girl and Mr Voorhees were rushed to hospital with injuries, their prognosis improving. Mr Voorhees's father in Milford, Conn, was notified.

Austrian youth hangs self in cell before night court
Frank Smith, 21, an Austrian, hanged himself with a trousers belt in a cell at Elizabeth Street station while awaiting arraignment on a disorderly conduct charge after being arrested for throwing a stone into a Bayard Street clothing store. Aigun Road Plan Adjusted To Tao Nan Fu Route
London July 9 A dispute over the railway project has led Chinese promoters and authorities to modify the plan. Men on Roof Shot Down in Mysterious Attack

Monorail wreck injures over a hundred on City Island line
A heavily loaded monopole monorail car on the new City Island Bartow line car toppled at a curve, sending more than 100 passengers from seats and injuring many.
