Chapel Roof Collapse Kills Fifty at Italian Hospital

Clark's Indian Bride Revealed From Lewis and Clark Era
Helena Mont July 14. Captain Clark of the Lewis and Clark expedition married a Nez Perce squaw. Descendants live on the Flathead reservation. Mary Clark, a Clark granddaughter, presented proofs to Congressman Dixon at Missoula. The squaw warned him of danger and bore his child who died in a clash with General Miles's troops. The Missoula family plans to go to Fortland for the exposition.

Burglary Attack on Grenell Island Women
Mrs Fanny Turners and her daughter Ida of Syracuse, summer residents at Grenell Island Park, were attacked by a burglar in their cottage. Ida was struck unconscious during a jewelry theft attempt, while Mrs Turners was beaten and dragged as neighbors screamed for help. Albert Nuhl, identified as a local offender, was arrested after threats he acted alone. Both women were severely injured. Mrs Harners remained in critical condition.

General W W Blackmar commander in chief of the Grand Army of the Republic died in Boise Idaho from interstitial nephritis. He arrived July 10 for an inspection tour of Northwest posts and grew ill. Survived by wife Mrs Blackmar, he will be buried in Boston. He earlier served as judge advocate general of Massachusetts and as a presidential elector.

Four drown while bathing on North River tragedy claims four
Four youths and two young men drowned during bathing at the North River within hours. Norman Flummer, Oscar Carlson, Jamies Chilisworth, John Smith, and two others failed to return after venturing into deep water. Lifeguard John Smith attempted rescue, but both disappeared in thirty feet of water. Carlson, Petersen, and Chilisworth also perished as the tide carried them downstream.

Rescue in Hell Gate Saves Two From Drowning
A sixteen year old, John Stribher, and fifteen year old Minute Ackerman, both of East 105th Street, were saved from the swift currents at Hell Gate yesterday afternoon. Volunteer steamer captain Hirsch and helper Steibher, with Peter Steibher, aided after the boat capsized. Frederick Nimenkohk, twenty, leaped in and helped keep the youths afloat until ropes and nearby bystanders aided the rescue. The trio were pulled toward the pier and revived after exhaustion.
