Schooner Natalie A Nickerson Sinks After Collision In Fog
In dense fog ten miles west northwest of Nantucket South Shoals Lightship the schooner Natalie A Nickerson was cut in two by the steamer Homanite. Three crew perished in 27 fathoms while Captain John Seavey and fourteen others were rescued by the Romante. The Nickerson carried mackerel and was bound for Newport. The Romante reported rapid, chaotic rescue efforts and the perilous moment as the two vessels collided under rough sea conditions.
