Forecaster warned of cool and wind but heat persisted with humidity surging across New York and surrounding areas. Two deaths cited from heat as temperatures reached near record highs and rain and winds failed to arrive as forecast.

William Murray a Hudson Boulevard patrolman chased a speeding touring car in North Bergen New Jersey yesterday. The motorist identified as E D Ebbetts of East Orange and his wife aided by extinguishing the fire and offered to accompany Murray to the station, but no charge was filed.
Mrs Anna Walters of 728 Elton Avenue The Bronx told Morrisania police she was assaulted by two unknown men Saturday night at 155th Street near Elton. She was knocked unconscious after being choked and struck with a club, dragged into woods, and left in the weeds for nearly two hours before crawling home. Two detectives were assigned to the case.
Bernard Rosen seventeen of No S87 Bushwick avenue Brooklyn drowned yesterday afternoon in the East River while escaping from the House of Refuge on Hart Island with three companions. They slipped out a ground floor window threw clothes off and jumped in as guards raised alarms. Rosen proved a poor swimmer and disappeared about five hundred feet from the island as boats approached. The other boys were captured and returned to custody while harbor police conducted a search for his body.
White Patrolman Hunt of Hirawnsville station was trapped on a fence by a nail that pierced his right ankle as he tried to scale the barrier to capture hoodlums on Her Kimer Street and Manhattan Crossing. The youths hurled stones while he endured the pain, then he slipped free and hobbled to the station, where an ambulance surgeon treated him.
A bystander near a canal in Richtier New Jersey rescued Samued Biterle from drowning after he cried for help. Nero, a heroic animal, leaped into the water and reached the man, pulling him to shore as bystanders assisted with revival efforts.
Under an order in the Rockingham Power Company case the court directs the payment of about 900000 to the Knickerbocker Trust Company of New York as part payment on a note. The proceeds arise from the sale of Rockingham property in North Carolina. The target amount is roughly 910000, and the action is filed in Asheville.
Miss Ethel Barrymore has retained the firm of Dittenhoefer Gerber James to represent her in a divorce action against Russell G. Colt.
