Miss Jane Gould granddaughter of Gould Car Coupling Company head was thrown from a phaeton near Greystone Rye yesterday afternoon. She suffered bruises and shock but no serious injuries. Ray Penovi of Port Chester drove away after rear ending her vehicle, and Charles E. McManus of Sheriff Sherp's deputies pursued him to Port Chester. Gould filed charges of reckless driving.
Samuel D. Styles president of the North River Savings Bank was found dead in his seat on a northbound New York Central express between Hudson and Greendale. He planned to spend Sunday and the Fourth with his wife at Richfield Springs and had recently served as director of Home Fire Insurance West Side Bank and Lincoln Trust Company. Styles helped form Styles & Cash and had led the North River Savings for about fifteen years.
Mrs George R Barnett widow of Basil Gordon and wife of Colonel Barnett commander of the American Legation guard in Peking returns from China. Detectives retrieve two $50 banknotes from hat linings after she sent them to a millinery shop for repair. She had stored the funds as an emergency reserve and notified police when the notes were found. The report also mentions a steamship excursion line timetable and fare.
An eight alarm fire swept the Morton Building at 116 Nassau Street destroying woodwork and 1600 reels of American Vitagraph Company films.
