Karl Jern, a German tenor at the Metropolitan Opera, has settled 25000 and 1000 yearly on his wife to allow her to wed a Berlin physician she loves. The agreement, witnessed by the German Consul, provides 1000 yearly to each of their three children for life and ends if she remarries. Frau Jern left New York for Europe after a brief stay.
Chicago January 27 Paul Redleske former Deputy Commissioner of Public Works Michael H McGovern a wealthy contractor and nine city officials and McGovern's employees were indicted by the grand jury for conspiring to defraud the city of 254000. The indictment expands beyond the shale rock case noting underbilled concrete and brick work for Section N of the Lawrence Avenue tunnel.
Mrs John Scanlon widow of the engineer who perished in the wreck at St Johnsville on Tuesday morning received a $90 check today from a woman passenger on the train. The giver asked that her name be withheld and sent a note saying the money cannot ease sorrow but offers sympathy.
Dr George Rambaud director of the New York Pasteur Institute married Mlle Jeanne Gerville Reache the Manhattan Opera contralto in New Jersey on November 11. The couple plan to reside in New York as Mrs Rambaud is engaged to sing there and he has worked at the Pasteur Institute for eighteen years. Reache, famed for Delilah in Samson et Delilah, has appeared in La Gioconda and Elektra and her family holds notable French positions.
