Dr Charles Wilmot Townsend a leading Staten Island physician was shot in his bed at No 56 Westervelt Ave New Brighton. the gunman fled, Townsend died at S R Smith Infirmary at 1 am. Coroner Cahill believes the act stemmed from a grievance not burglary. Morris Silverman and Isaac Snyder were arrested as suspicious persons but not identified as the shooter.
