Fire engulfs Bond Street loft as runaway water tower hurts horses
A five story brick building at No 19 Bond Street in Elmst. part of a rapid transit tunnel excavation suffered a fierce fire that demanded firefighters to descend into mud filled trenches to fight the blaze for two hours. Four men were burned slightly and two horses pulling Water Tower No 2 were fatally injured when the apparatus slammed into a hydrant and lamp post. Fire Chief Croker and Fire Marshal Freel led efforts. damages exceed fifty thousand dollars with valuables missing from the office.
