West Forties precinct woke to a murder report of Joseph Drain by Hille Burke, a Black suspect. The New York and Porto Rico steamer Brazos docked in Brooklyn with a damaged starboard side after a collision with the Suffolk off Scotland Light. Brazos carried 171 passengers and 80 crew. repairs likely to finish by Monday allowing a San Juan voyage. Captain Harstow chose not to risk continuing with a large passenger list.
Arthur Stanton of 1209 Southern Boulevard Bronx stepped out to buy cigarettes last night. While talking with his brother Herbert, three unidentified men stabbed him. Stanton ran four blocks to a drug store at 1300 Intervale Avenue and collapsed dead at the counter. Detectives searched area cellars for the assailants.
The American liner St Paul docked at Liverpool carrying 240 passengers. Joseph Cham Verlain, who had fallen behind after sightseeing, sprinted back aboard, missing customs and messages, and rejoined the ship just in time for departure. A separate dispatch from Seattle notes 0 below zero in Fairbanks and a report from the Far North.
SEATTLE Jan 22 A snow avalanche struck the Great Northern limited near Corea Cascades trapping sixty aboard six cars. Five bodies recovered, six injured. a diner burned as a fire raged through the wreck. One coach buried under snow, death toll uncertain after ten hours.
El Paso Jan 22 Major Throto Prieto arrives with a Villa message to the American people denying any link to the Santa Youbel massacre. Villa vows to find and punish the band and assures safety for Americans who respect Mexican rights. The report also notes Akers and Downs killed near Yaleta and Mexican suspects arrested or at large as US officials press for justice.

Meanwhile in Rome Queen Helena of Italy and her Montenegro mother Queen Milena met refugees, sharing a poignant scene as Montenegrin royals continued to Lyons, signaling Montenegro’s alliance with Italy and the Entente.
London Jan 22 A Prague telegram reports the Frankfurt Zeitung discusses possible separate peace with Belgium and says Belgium is free to pursue its interests until the London agreement is signed. The dispatch notes the article caused a sensation in Germany and may reflect official sources.
A Belgian Jesuit, after an audience with the Pope, relayed that the Pontiff insists Belgium has the right to full reparation from Germany and will not assist peace unless Belgium regains all territories in Europe and Africa, restoration of liberties, and full indemnity after a full inventory of war losses.
The Dutch steamer Apollo of 709 tons sank off Galloper Lightship last night after collision. Four sailors wounded, four drowned, and sixteen rescued. Princess Juliana saved six crew members and brought them to Flushing. The Trematon of 2665 tons is also reported sunk with crew landed.
Vienna reports Montenegro slow to disarm amid bad communications and distance issues while Montenegrin sources deny capitulation. Rome notes no peace preliminaries yet, and Austrian messages say disarmament proceeds with troops avoiding hostilities and offering lenient terms to those surrendering.
