After nine days of desert ordeal in Sonora Mexico two Army aviators Lieutenant W A Robertson and Lieutenant Colonel Bishop were found by a civilian search party. Robertson returned to the base while Bishop was left in care of rescuers and to be brought later. The party had started from San Diego on January 10 with limited rations and water from a radiator.
The Times Square Hunt Club staged a fox chase down Broadway drawing swift crowds to the theatre. A silver fox led a chase past Forty-third Street into an Eighth Avenue saloon where Master of Fox Hounds Dollard had his thumb bitten. the fox was captured and taken to the police station.
Fridgeport Conn Jan 19 The German merchant submarine Deutschland is expected to reach New London Harbor within forty eight hours officials say. James L McGovern reports from New London that German naval officials no longer regard the Bremen as lost and confirms unofficial word of a possible arrival soon.
Washington reports strong Republican opposition to President Wilson's nomination of Dr Cary T Grayson for promotion to rear admiral over 127 senior navy medical officers. The dispute follows editorials calling the move scandalous and a betrayal of trust with other nominations delayed or defended.
Dispatches from Rio de Janeiro report a second raider, the Moone, equipped with two guns on the captured steamer Saint Theodore, now operating as an auxiliary cruiser. The report, based on hearsay, raises neutrality concerns as it circulates to Canada and Britain, with crew safety and international law questions surrounding merchantman conversions.

Berlin reports British steamer Yarrowdale of 5 600 tons was brought to a German harbor by a prize crew of sixteen. It carried 469 prisoners from one Norwegian and seven British ships and held war materials, foodstuffs, wheat, flour, rifles, barbed wire, steel, and vehicles. The prize crew commander was Deputy Officer Badowits.
