Alderman Clifford Charged With Bribery in Queens
Alderman William S. Clifford of the 67th District Queens was arrested on bribery charges yesterday afternoon by Detective Bernard J. Flood. He is jailed in $10,000 bail and faces a 2:30 p.m. hearing in West Side police court. Prosecutors say Clifford agreed to accept $5,500 to sway Municipal Ownership League members to back ex-Judge Rufus B. Cowing for Recorder, with David Mann acting as go-between. Eleven other members were subpoenaed to Grand Jury.

Cab horse killed after Broadway collision at Marlborough
A cab horse ran four blocks along Broadway and collided with a heavy auto in front of the Hotel Marlborough last evening. The crash threw three men from the vehicles onto the pavement as diners and a crowd of about a thousand gathered. Passengers Joseph Wessman, cab driver Joseph McCarthy, and chauffeur Mark Dolan were all recovered and apparently uninjured.

Emanuel Lehman, senior Lehman Brothers partner, died at his home and left a plan to donate three Henry Street houses to the Crippled Children’s East Side Free School.
