Terrific explosion at Hamilton Powder works kills ten

A blast at the Hamilton Powder Company in Departure Bay Nanaimo BC today kills George Simorfetta James Fulforte and ten Chinese workers. One body recovered, others blown to fragments. The guncotton storage house exploded, blasting the gelignite nearby and shattering the site three miles from Nanaimo. James Preston narrowly survived after staying at his machine to prevent a second explosion. No cause can be assigned and no witnesses survived.

Congress Freezes Anthracite Coal Duties

Congress approved a one year suspension of duties on coal and placed anthracite on the free list. An amendment in the Senate concurred by the House. Flotilla Formed to Protect Amoor River Trade

Czar Gratulates M. de Witte on Finance Service

Canadian coal imports could relieve New England fuel pressure
