Fowler Bill Opposed Highlights Currency Reform Clash
U.S. House Banking Committee chairman Representative Fowler of New Jersey faces mixed views as Republican and Democratic members debate his plan to retire all national bank secured currency and replace it with a guaranteed credit system. Some favor Senator Aldrich’s emergency expansion and allow securities beyond national bank assets, while Burton of Ohio hints temporary, targeted legislation may prevail.
