Demidoffs Enter Almanach Of Gotha In 1908 Nobility Rise

The Demidoff family is listed as Princes and Princesses of San Donato in the Almanach de Gotha for 1908 signaling their rise among European nobility. The note traces Nikita Demidoff from a Ural blacksmith ennobled by Peter the Great to a Tuscan prince lineage, with marriages into Strogannoffs and Bonapartes and a 19th century Tuscan promotion. It details the family’s titles, transfers, and notable connections including Marie Metschersky and Alexander III, ending with the modern chief Elim and allied lines. In London, the Earl of Cork and Orrery is fined after challenging scaffolding safety, illustrating the reach of peerage immunities for misdemeanors. The piece also mentions Cork’s lack of direct Ireland ties despite multiple titles and outlines the Marston Bigott seat in Somerset.
