A disastrous blaze raged through the Nevins residence at No 4 East Fifty third street gutting the top floors and roof. Mrs Nevins stood near her room on the second floor before evacuating with assistance as servants carried out valuables. Fire brigades battled to suppress the flames for an hour, with extensive water damage and an estimated repair cost up to 100000. Mr Nevins will reside temporarily at Buckingham Hotel.
