Reports from Rome describe growing anti tax agitation among Sicilian peasants and workers, with demonstrations in Palermo and Travanasta. In Travanasta 400 men attacked the Prince Trebla estate as police stood by, later rioters threatened to burn the house. Rescued From the Flames at Mount Vernon Santa Performance
Mia C. Mclean wife of Colonel C. M. McLean and niece of the late Colonel George McLean was badly burned while impersonating Santa at a Christmas entertainment for Mount Vernon children. A tuft of cotton on her costume caught fire from a candle as she appeared before about 200 in Willard Hall. The Rev F M S Taylor aided, but flames spread until seven year old William Greene wrapped his overcoat around her head to smother the fire. Taylor burned his hands and fainted, while children panicked as medical help arrived for Mrs McLean. Doctors hoped to determine injuries after ether.
