Baltic and Providence Ferry Collision Sparks Panic on East River
The Baltic with nearly six hundred aboard was rammed by the Providence in fog near Buttermilk Channel at 5:20 PM. Passengers scrambled for life preservers, a rescue diver saved a woman who jumped overboard, and crews assisted as vessels drifted apart. The Baltic and nine horses were later moved to docks for landing and repair while most passengers reached piers in New York and Brooklyn.

The plan to combine Mercantile National Banks and National Bank of North America and Consolidated National Bank has been abandoned in favor of absorbing Mercantile into Irving National Exchange Bank.
