Rigoletto at the Metropolitan with New Gilda Ricolette
At the Metropolitan Opera House last night a new Gilda Frances Alda made her American debut in Rigoletto alongside Caruso. Amato starred as the Duke's jester, El Spetrino conducted, with Homer and Digar adding force to the finale. Alda, from New Zealand with Paris Brussels Milan training, showed powerful voice despite some pitch lapses and vibrato. Caruso’s voice remained grand though not at his peak, delivering the familiar spell to listeners.
