Yonkers voids trolley grants tied to 1899 and 1907 franchises
Yonkers Common Council, on advice from Corporation Counsel Charles E. Otts, formally revoked all trolley franchises granted to Yonkers Railroad Company in 1899 and 1907. The action forfeits a $50,000 bond, which could not be found at government offices. The bond’s fate traces to a memo to former City Attorney Thomas F. Curran, who denied knowledge of it. Affected lines include the South Broadway, Elm and Walnut street, and Speedway Extension under the 1907 grants, though the latter was never laid. the 1899 grants cover Central and Jerome avenues, Park Avenue beyond Shennard Place, double tracks on New Main Street and Yonkers Avenue, part of the Tuckahoe line, and the Sawmill River Road line not yet built.
