North Pole by aeroplane proposed by Bartlett

Captain Robert Bartlett of the Peary North Pole party told the Aero Club of New England at its annual dinner that an aeroplane could reach the North Pole by land to Cape Morris K. Jesup, eighty one miles from the pole, a four hour flight with modern machines. He described routes via Cape Jesup to the pole and from Cape Chelyuskin in Siberia, noting optimal summer conditions in July and August and the need to carry supplies for the trip.

Elk Saved by Soldiers at Yellowstone Boundary Clash

In Livingston Montana November events report U S soldiers and rangers battled across Yellowstone National Park boundary to deter elk from entering lowlands after heavy snow. Raymond Belmont the second son of financier August Belmont is said to have separated from his wife Ethel Lorraine née Lindner a stage chorus girl after he was not present at their Gosford apartment since Friday noon. August Belmont Jr professed no knowledge of the split while no one but close friends access the New York residence in West 55th Street.

Five Hurt as Passenger Train Hits Engine Near New Haven

Five persons were injured, none seriously, when a passenger train bound for New Haven collided with a light engine at the Columbia yards of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railway near here. Both engines were badly damaged, but all coaches remained on the rails as passengers were thrown about. The crash was caused by a “hoister” running the light engine out onto the main line as the passenger train approached.

Four men rob West 27th Street liquor dealer

Joseph Lopez, a wholesale liquor dealer at 47 West 27th Street, was robbed by four men on 27th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues early today. A pistol was held to his face, he was knocked down, and about $200 stolen. He suffered a fractured ankle and was taken to Bellevue Hospital after a bystander alerted a patrolman.

A Philadelphia Telegraph note reports ripe strawberries found in Woodbourne near Lansdowne on Springfield Road in Upper Darby Township. Edgar T. Scott’s estate manager Attar Mallon discovered the open patch berries, which ripened as snow melted under sun after Thanksgiving Day.
