Mob Stones Bellevue After Teen Injured By Driver
Andrew L. Bender of Tarrytown could not avoid hitting Annie Nieman thirteen after a mob surged on Second Avenue and 24th Street. The injured girl jumped from behind a wagon and was struck, Bender ignored the crowd and carried her to the machine before speeding toward Bellevue Hospital. The mob threw stones and fired at the vehicle until police dispersed them. Bender was jailed on a technical assault charge.
