Meteor churning sea sighted off Amagansett coast
A blazing meteor lit the evening sky above Amagansett and the Atlantic near the life saving station. The fireball, about seventy five feet across and weighing several tons, struck the ocean creating a massive tidal wave that washed away bathhouses and damaged property. Dead fish washed ashore as local youths gathered the bounty.

Nurse falls to death on Sangre de Cristo cliff
Miss Eugenia Goold a 30 year old trained nurse from South Canyon City fell about 200 feet on the south slope of Twin Sisters Mountain in the Sangre de Cristo range and died instantly while camping with four companions. Alexander Jester Dead Civil War Vet Lived Under Multiple Names
A. Jester a 90 year old Civil War veteran died in Cushing Oklahoma. He was accused of killing Gilbert Gates brother of John W. Gates in Kansas. Arrested 1871 he escaped jail then lived as William A. Hill until betrayed in 1897. He was acquitted after a long trial.
