Theo Roosevelt prepares to leave Sir Alfred Pease’s Athi River ranch for the Mau Hills near Machakos to hunt a reported black-maned lion. Kermit Roosevelt scored with a Thompson gazelle at 570 yards while F C Selous has been in the Mall Hills for days.
John D. Rockefeller and John D. Rockefeller Jr plan to sell most of their Cleveland residential holdings, excluding two elder family houses. Transfers involve Forest Hill Extelld and East 40th Street homes and downtown Rockefeller blocks, valued near 1 million dollars, deeded to Abeyton Realty Company for ten dollars each. Hathaway helped move him to another car and took him to Roosevelt Hospital where doctors feared skull fracture and other injuries. Mrs Hathaway remained largely unhurt and was staying at the Waldorf Astoria with her parents.
Theatrical leaders Belasco and Fiske form a business rapprochement with their long time rivals Klaw and Erlanger and James K Hackett accepts an offer from Charles Frohman to appear under his direction next season. No formal agreement is signed but mutual theatre cooperation is to be pursued as the Shuberts are left to themselves. Hackett to succeed Gillette in Samson and then headline a new Frohman play.
General John T. Cutting resigns as chair of the Liberal Sunday League board of governors. August Belmont Alfred G. Vanderbilt and Edward Lauterbach also resign or threaten to resign amid internal disputes over authorizations and financial contributions. Cutting had donated 100 dollars with reports claiming 250 dollar gifts, and voiced discontent at delays in removing Vanderbilt’s name from league circulars.

Vienna dispatch reports the Allegemeine Zeitung stating delegations will be asked to vote a credit of 100 million dollars to build seven Dreadnoughts. Official circles deny any settled figures and suggest the amount may be exaggerated.
Tabriz April 29 The Russian force under General Snarsky is believed to be not far distant. The advance guard arrived at the outskirts of the town tonight and there is general rejoicing that Tabriz will be relieved tomorrow.
In Paris on April 29, about six thousand postal and telegraph employees approved a resolution refusing ministerial interrogations and signaling readiness to renew the strike if any action is taken against recalcitrant workers. Police ban parades planned for May 1.
Paris April 30 a Salonica dispatch to Petit Parisien reports the ex Sultans life is safeguarded but hints he may suffer a heart seizure as the heart is known to be weak.
Residents feared an earthquake as the three story rear wall of the old Tivoli at 139 and 141 West 36th Street fell into the rear yard. Bricks flew into neighboring houses 134 through 140, with several near misses at 140. Inspector Dwyer reported a sagging roof and a potential further collapse. Sidewalks were fenced off.
A Rome dispatch reports a satchel with jewelry worth 16000 dollars stolen from a train, owned by Princess von Billow of Berlin. A 6000 dollar reward was posted, detectives dispatched from Germany, and three men arrested at Geneva carried jewels believed linked to the missing property though the papers remain unfound.
In Gibraltar on April 29 W R Patterson, not a member of Joseph Pulitzer’s party, but a crew member, was landed with smallpox from the American yacht Liberty and sent to a hospital outside town. The Liberty, owned by Pulitzer of New York, had sailed from Norfolk for Europe with its owner aboard.
Albany reports a busy closing for the session. The Senate granted New York Central a perpetual West Side elevated franchise as the Assembly Rules Committee backed the bill. The Assembly passed the women teachers' equal pay bill and both houses approved an automobile tax measure near the end of the term.
Albany April 29. The New York Senate adjourned after a long day of debate over the Public Service amendments as Senator Josiah T. Newcomb faced continuous mockery for his filibuster. While the bill aims at streetcar transfers in New York City and possible lower upstate rates, political maneuvering and threats of an extra session cloud its fate.
