John Gunn a six year old boy from Harlem Hospital was shot in the forehead by Aaron Olsen captain of the sand scow Eva E Reinhardt while playing on the pier. Olsen was arrested and charged with shooting the boy as authorities say the act had no justification. Three shots were fired, two missed, the bullet lodged in the frontal bone and remains under treatment.

James M. Elliott, 55, of Elliott Bros. Printers in the Coogan Building, was found unconscious from morphine at Stein's Drug Store after being assisted by police. He had earlier attempted to enter his office for his own letter paper and left, using a card bearing his name from his card case.
Clayton New Mexico April 2 Thomas E Ketchum alias Black Jack the train robber was hanged at 1 21 pm today. The rope broke but he jerked his head off. He spoke with visitors and claimed death preferable to imprisonment and denied the Black Jack name. He said he shot only three men and never killed anyone. He exonerated men convicted in the Stein's Pass robbery and declared Bud Upshaw innocent of Powers murder. He cited conspiracies and named accomplices while describing a long career of train robberies. Ketchum mailed a letter to President McKinley asking clemency for innocent men and offering information to locate stolen articles.
In Butte and New Jersey litigation, John MacGinniss and Daniel Lamm sue Amalgamated Copper and Parrott Copper and Silver to block Parrott absorption, seek a receiver, stop dividends, and allege fraud and conspiracy by officers to deprive minority holders. A temporary restraining order was issued on a $10,000 bond.
