Giant Minnesota launches as largest world cargo carrier
New London CT April 16 special report on the launch of the enormous steamship Minnesota at Eastern Shipbuilding. The ship moved slowly down the ways amid fire and smoke, a workman was injured but none seriously. Ten thousand spectators viewed the event as Miss Clara Hill broke a champagne bottle naming the vessel Minnesota. The ship was guided to a dock after a near harbor incident and will be fitted for service. President Hill lauded U S steamship leadership and discussed far reaching transport goals while Connecticut officials and New York guests attended and rides back to New York faced delays.
