Armand Schaufer sixteen was killed when an auto owned by the New York Electrical Vehicle Company and driven by Edward McCune 822 West Forty seventh street struck him at Madison avenue and Twenty third street as fire engines passed en route to a small blaze. Four Mercer Street detectives raided the Allen poolroom at 69 Sixth Avenue after Commissioner Murphy ordered arrests where evidence existed. The sealing steamer Greenland arrived in St John’s on April 18 with 194 men from the wrecked sealing steamer Hope off Bryan Island in the Gulf of St Lawrence.
