Fire damages five story Catholic Club building on West Fifty-ninth
A blaze discovered at 2 am in the five story terra cotta building at 120 West Fifty-ninth street housing the Catholic Club caused about 8000 in damage. Police and fire crews responded quickly with no casualties though fifteen members slept on upper floors and were rescued. Firemen saved valuable paintings and rare books including old Bibles from the smoke filled rooms. The cause remains under investigation.
