Haywood Freed by Jersey Court After Habeas Corpus Ruling

Haywood and Lessig, leaders of the Industrial Workers of the World, were freed by Justice Minturn on a writ of habeas corpus. Police had detained 142 strikers for picketing and unlawful assembly as they marched from Lafayette Oval to Hale don. Bail set at 5,000 each on disorderly conduct. 12 other strikers released.

Little girl loses finger in street accident near Corona

A rings finger on the right hand was severed when a truck struck a child playing near 247 Loua Tink Street yesterday afternoon. Dr O Brien of Mariem Hospital treated the girl who cried she could not marry now. The operator Ralph Har of 40 Sedgwick Avenue, Corona was not arrested.

Sulzer Portrait Rescued From Brooklyn Club Fire

The Brooklyn Press Club building on Fulton Street burned after 9 pm with fire in the third floor card room. No members were present. the loss is about five thousand dollars. A portrait of Governor Sulzer was saved from the flames amid water damage to the lower floors housing a restaurant run by Herman Beube.

Woman Dies Save Two Children From Runaway Horses

Mrs. J. A. Silverman of Brownsville, 70, sacrificed her life to shield two children from a cart drawn by runaway horses on Sutter avenue and Union street. She pushed the youths aside but was struck, dying of a skull fracture after the vehicle crashed into a plate glass window. She was known for small charitable acts in Brownsville and leaves a husband, Hyman.
