City of Troy Burned Passengers All Saved
The steamer City of Troy of the Troy Line carrying about sixty five passengers caught fire eight miles below Dobbs Ferry while bound for Albany and Troy. Captain Charles Bruder steered for the east shore and beached the boat at Edwin Gould's pier Ardsley. all passengers were landed safely though a woman passenger was found asleep in her berth and rescued. The vessel burned to the waterline losing cargo horses and freight. Edwin Gould's dock and nearby buildings were threatened but saved. The Western Express ferried fifty five passengers to Tarrytown for transfer to trains to Troy. the crew aided in battling the blaze with passengers and two Dobbs Ferry firemen perishing for the moment to rescue a passenger.
