Press Agent Sues Chanler Over 1908 Publicity Work
A civil action by William F. Clark seeks $20,000 for publicity work in support of Lewis Stuyvesant Chanler's 1908 presidential bid. Chanler's counsel asked to vacate a pretrial exam order. Clark, backed by W. Hearst attorney Clarence Shearn, alleges Manning coordinated the campaign. Chanler claims Manning offered help for free and he paid him $15,000. If the ruling favors Clark, Chanler may face trial next Saturday.
