Amid threats of a 40 000 strong sympathy walkout, transit leaders deny broad sympathy strikes and report increased service on all lines. The Amalgamated Association faces legal pressure while subway and elevated services return to normal with few strikebreakers at work.
Amid the eleventh day of the uniformed strike, Interborough rapid transit reports near full command of subway and elevated services. Subway trains exceed 110 in motion at noon with 218 elevated runs in the morning, and record crowds travel the system. Officials say no strikebreakers remain and normal Saturday service is largely restored, while strikers offer limited concessions on surface lines.
Westchester residents face a week of trolley disruption as attorney David Garfinkel plans a taxpayer suit in White Plains to challenge a 15 day ordinance restricting trolley operation to experienced crews. He seeks a Supreme Court ruling on constitutionality while Yonkers Rail Road weighs compliance.

In London on September 16 a large group of trade unionists plans to seek a uniform wage advance if the government does not assure steps to control food supplies or fix maximum prices. The effort is supported by 1 600 000 workers beyond those with regulated wages. In Berlin the big banks propose higher salaries to cope with living costs.
