William Allen Butler Dies Sudden at Yonkers Residence
William Allen Butler a leading American admiralty authority and noted poet died at Round Oak Yonkers last evening at 8 35 of gastritis after a one day illness. Born Albany 1825 he was son of Benjamin Franklin Butler a key New York lawyer and cabinet member. He practiced law until his death and wrote satirical verse including Nothing to Wear and Flora McFlimsey of Madison Square. He served as president of the American Bar Association in 1886 and taught admiralty law at New York University while active in civic affairs. He leaves a large family and will be buried after services at the First Presbyterian Church in Yonkers.
